Love this movie 🌏🎥📷💥❤❤❤. The Trolley Song Judy Garland With my high starched-collar and my high-topped shoes And my hair piled high upon my head I went to lose a jolly hour on the trolley And lost my heart instead With his light brown derby and his bright green tie He was quite the handsomest of men I started to yen so I counted to ten Then I counted to ten again Clang, clang, clang went the trolley Ding, ding, ding went the bell Zing, zing, zing went my heart strings From the moment I saw him I fell Chug, chug, chug went the motor Bump, bump, bump went the brake Thump, thump, thump went my heart strings When he smiled I could feel the car shake He tipped his hat, and took a seat He said he hoped he hadn't stepped upon my feet He asked my name, I held my breath I couldn't speak because he scared me half to death Buzz, buzz, buzz went the buzzer Plop, plop, plop went the wheels Stop, stop, stop went my heart strings As he started to go then I started to know how it feels When the universe reels The day was bright, the air was sweet The smell of honeysuckle charmed you off your feet You tried to sing, but couldn't squeak In fact you loved him so you couldn't even speak Buzz, buzz, buzz went the buzzer Plop, plop, plop went the wheels Stop, stop, stop went my heart strings As he started to leave I took hold of his sleeve with my hand And as if it were planned He stayed on with me and it was grand just to stand With his hand holding mine to the end of the line.

I can handle the truth. Any movie which celebrates major holidays by a climactic act of cathartic violence, like being bit by Judy Garland or the mass decapitation of a snow family is a movie I can get down with. Speaking of Judy, she wore many lovely outfits but none I wanted to wear myself more than the lace-collared black top // blue/green/pink pleated skirt w/ powder-blue? gloves ensemble! I too could picture myself serenading a whole trolley car about my crush in that get-up! PS - I also found her performance of 'Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas' quite affecting. PPS - I had no idea that at the turn of the XXth Century in St. Louis, Halloween was celebrated by children in disguise who make bonfires of smashed furniture and attack their neighbors with flour before retiring to cake and ice-cream! This review may contain spoilers. 92/100 A bit swamped with work and errands in the days before I leave for Cannes, so let me direct you to my friend Theo's capsule review, with which I concur 100% apart from the hilariously measured phrase "pretty wonderful" (as allotted to a film he rates higher than 99. 9% of everything else he's ever seen). It is in fact intensely wonderful, pure delight from beginning to end; people think of it primarily as a Judy Garland vehicle (and she's magnificent) but it's really one of Hollywood's greatest ensemble pieces, so enraptured with everybody onscreen that its essential plotlessness barely registers. The only bum note, as Theo observes, is Dad's climactic decision to remain in St. Louis, which is cheaply… Certainly the only story whose happy ending is predicated on staying in Missouri. I’m at the stage of love for this movie where the anticipation of my favorite moments is as pleasurable as the moments themselves. And all the while finding more tiny little details that reveal the genius of Minnelli, Garland and - less showy, but equally brilliant - Mary Astor. This family does not know they’re in a musical. Really one of the saddest films you can think of. Minnelli's colors, his trinket-ization of bourgeois interiors, and Judy Garland's Cake Walk dances are manic attempts by the Smith family to keep their depression at bay, to delay the growing up of the Smith sisters. As soon as the fun parts of the day end (John Truitt turning off his warm winter orange lights after asking Esther to marry him), darkness creeps in (Esther and Tootie cloaked in deep-dark blues — the shade of sorrow — they will be moving to a foreign place where they know nobody and won't be able to talk with anybody "like we do in St. Louis"). Judy Garland only infrequently smiles; in the ostensibly… Recent reviews MEET ME IN ST. Like the majority of the musicals of Hollywood's Golden Age there'll be those who enjoy this more than others, but many people will recognise the timeless songs, especially "The Trolley Song" and "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" 8/10 It’ll take me at least a week to dig up all my dolls from the cemetery.. Classic. Funny. Sweet. Musical. Judy. And a heathen halloween. The kids steal every scene they are in. Good family movie, ideal for Christmas holidays. I kinda get it now why everyone adores Judy Garland 64% It's nice. I disapprove of pretty much everything the characters do but it was set literally a century ago. A fun holiday movie that hasn't aged very well. PS: Jesus, Halloween those days must have been scary af. Really dug this one. On the surface it’s your average Judy Garland musical, but there’s some wild shit in here. For reals, the youngest kids are fucking nuts and I love it. The rest of the film is charming melodrama that I couldn’t help but fall for, and the music is delightful HEY! I live here and love to go to the St. Louis Fair! so why the fuck I haven't seen this. Musicals are a genre of film that I don’t tend to love with the exception of a few classics like Fiddler on the Roof (1971) and The Sound of Music (1965). I had mixed feelings about this film with it being possibly the most traditional example of a musical ever made. With the involvement of Judy Garland, a performer whose work I do not enjoy, and director Vincente Minnelli, responsible for the mediocre An American in Paris (1951), I was predisposed to hate the movie. Most of my irritation with the tropes present in musicals caused me to cringe as the film went through the motions but there was also the fact that the song and dance numbers were disappointing… Um feel-good movie com musical e romance.. definitivamente não é meu tipo de filme. Enredo sem graça, que não chama atenção em nenhum momento. Popular Lists More.

Share This Article: By Megan Bianco The way most adults feel about Frank Capra’s timeless It’s a Wonderful Life (1946) during the December holiday season is how I feel about Vincente Minnelli’s MGM movie musical masterpiece Meet Me in St. Louis (1944). Support Times of San Diego's growth with a small monthly contribution Both films are brilliant in their own rights, but surprisingly, it took me until high school to first watch Wonderful Life and appreciate it, while I basically grew up watching St. Louis as a holiday tradition. Mostly through my grandmother introducing me to MGM musicals as a kid and because Judy Garland was my favorite actor in my youth. St. Louis lives on as Garland’s second most famous film behind The Wizard of Oz (1939), and has just as much Technicolor magic as her earlier film. The movie takes place in St. Louis in 1904 throughout the summer, fall and winter seasons of the Smith family’s lives. Seventeen-year-old Esther (Garland) is in love with the boy—John Truett (Tom Drake)—who just moved next door. Eighteen-year-old Rose (Lucille Bremer) is waiting for her boyfriend away at college to propose; 19-year-old Lon (Harry H. Daniels, Jr. ) has just been dumped; and 10-year-old Agnes (Joan Carroll) and 5-year-old Tootie (Margaret O’Brien) are just interested in causing trouble. Leon Ames, Mary Astor, Marjorie Main and Harry Davenport make up the rest of family as the parents, cook and grandfather. Minnelli’s musical is famous for a lot of firsts. It’s the first time the director and leading lady properly worked together after meeting on the set of Babes on Broadway three years earlier, and the two would eventually get married and produce daughter Liza. It was the first time Garland sang her hit songs “The Boy Next Door” and “The Trolley Song, ” and the debut of holiday standard “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. ” It would also be the last time the one-time child star played a teen on screen. Meet Me in St. Louis not only made a big effect on movie fans and musical aficionados, but also influenced future filmmakers. The Halloween sequence with Tootie and Agnes would inspire the color scheme of John Carpenter’s Halloween (1978), and Woody Allen would update the six-month family tale to 1996 Manhattan in his own movie musical Everyone Says I Love You. Only about 25 minutes of the film takes place during Christmas, but it is one of the best holiday sequences in cinema history, and Garland proves every time that she is the definitive singer of “Merry Little Christmas. ” Meet Me in St. Louis is just as charming now as it was to me as a kid, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys musicals, Christmas and old Hollywood. A very nice way of showing how we make our lives out of our inner worlds, and how difficult it can be to communicate because of our different needs and points of view of life. Still, love has the power to keep us together and help us understand and accept each other for who we are. Beautiful, funny and nice. Movie watch cita en st. louis ck. Movie watch cita en st. louis 2016. Although I'm very fond of this movie, and rate it highly, I can see why it might not be to everyone's taste. The values it appears to espouse, and to imply are universal, are underpinned by other, unspoken principals that today might stick in the craw. For example, although there are no black faces in the film, Skip to my Lou" and "Under the Bamboo Tree" both refer in an unthinking and somewhat patronising way to non-white cultures. On a different critical tack, none of women in the film show the slightest inclination to move beyond the home. You might reply to these criticisms, with justification, that they err in applying liberal stances of our own day to those of both St Louis 1903 and Hollywood 1944. But, as I say, I can see the objections.
Nonetheless, I am both impressed and moved whenever I watch Meet Me In St Louis. Impressed by the beautiful camera-work, the splendidly crafted sets and costumes, and the excellent performances. Moved by the result of the underlying structure, taking us through a year from one Spring to another, through the fear of encroaching night of Autumn, into the darkness of Winter, and out the other side. And moved, too, by the honour of the characters. When June Lockhart's Lucille Ballard turns out to be the very opposite of the Smith girls' vision of an East Coast snob, they are forced to change their unworthy little plan. The ensuing scene is one of the highlights of the picture for me, as Judy Garland's Esther, put on the spot by her grandfather (wonderful Harry Davenport) pays the price for her and her sister's meanness of spirit, and is rewarded by the unexpected appearance of her true love.
Yes, maybe these comfortable people in their big house can afford to be big-hearted. But that's the way symbolic drama has always worked: Oedipus and Lear are kings so that their fall is all the greater. This is the key to the inevitably more modest Meet Me In St Louis, but nonetheless the film is amazingly ambitious on its own terms, and teaches its moral lessons well, particularly so in the ballroom episode I've described above, but elsewhere too: for example, when Leon Ames's Alonzo witnesses his youngest daughter's extreme distress at the thought of leaving St Louis, and finds a way out of the situation in which he has dumped himself and his family, and thus demoting the economic values he has put before the happiness of his nearest and dearest.
But it isn't all morals. The emotional heart of Meet Me In St Louis is the relationship between sisters Esther and Tootie, played by the headliners Judy Garland and Margaret O'Brien. This finds its climax in the heart-rending "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" which I have watched through tears on many occasions. Situated in the depths of winter, it is a lament for hope defeated by loss, simply filmed, magnificently acted - especially by the amazing O'Brien - and perfect in every way.
Don't let my 8 out of 10 fool you: Meet Me In St Louis is a wonderful piece of work. I concede the two points firstly because "Skip to my Lou" which does nothing for the story, should have been completely re-thought or, ideally, cut; and secondly because, in the 21st century, the idealisation of the family's world has lost some of its power - especially when you consider author Sally Benson made her screen debut a year earlier working on the dialogue for a somewhat more critical celebration of mid-West life, Alfred Hitchcock's Shadow of a Doubt. As we've seen, it's not as if darkness doesn't inhabit the world of Meet Me In St Louis, in particular that of Tootie, who imagines she has killed someone, that someone has tried to kill her, that Katie the maid (the incomparable Marjorie Main) has killed her cat, and so on. But today the no-place-like-home/love-conquers-all message of this wartime fantasy, no matter how brilliantly it is realised, sits as uneasily with us as, say, Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew does.
The fact that I can happily discuss Meet Me In St Louis in the same breath as great works of drama demonstrates to me that whatever reservations I, or others, may have, it is still a magnificent achievement, and an undoubted masterpiece of American cinema.

Download full a simple wedding photos. Whether you want to wear your hair down or in an updo, there are plenty of simple yet polished styles to consider. If you love the idea of a simple, beautiful wedding-day beauty look, then you're in luck. Although an elaborate updo or extravagant braid is always an option for your big day, the hairstyles that follow prove that you don't need an intricate updo to look amazing. While there's nothing wrong with a complex hairstyle, especially when it complements your personal style, your wedding dress, or your venue, some brides find that loose curls, a tidy bun, a natural blowout, or a delicate flower crown is all they need to look like the bridal version of themselves. But don't confuse simple with basic, boring, or safe. This beautiful style by Brittani Estes is the perfect example. Since the low bun was equal parts simple and elegant in and of itself, all the understated style really needed to shine was a unique hair accessory from Twigs & Honey.
